To be or not to be Individualistic

People promote individualism and at the same time complain about CEO's salary. How can this be possible when a CEO represents the epitome of individual's success?

Creating competition at the workplace may be a good approach but definitely not the best. I am a firm believer in synergy and I think that a firm or society would be able to generate more wealth or value by promoting a blend of individualistic and collectivistic behavior with a bias towards the latter. An organization tends to benefit more when employees stop seeing each other as threats. and start sharing their knowledge, ideas, expressing true opinions and offering constructive criticism. A lot of energy and effort could be channelized for better causes . Such an environment will help people as well as the system, be it an organization or society, realize their full potentials.

How do you measure the right balance of individualism and collectivity? Isn't it that the society benefits most when every member works for their self interest without harming the other?
